Winster Hill Race

Run as part of the carnival towards the end of June the race will be held on Thursday June 28th at 19:30 in 2007. The course is a mix of early roads, fields and then a track to the highest point and a steep descent back into the village the total ascent being around 500 feet. It starts on the Main Road and goes out of the village turning right towards Birchover after a half mile or so. At the top of the first incline the race turns left crossing fields and a narrow in places path dropping to the road below Robin Hood's Stride. An ascent of Dudwood Lane is followed by a further ascent on a track to bring competitors out on the road near to the Miner's Standard public house where the race descends the West Bank before the mad dash back down the Main Street to the finish outside the ancient Market Hall.
