Update on Black Rocks Fell Race 15th July 2020
Just for the avoidance of doubt, Black Rocks Fell Race isn't going ahead this year. We had selected the date carefully to avoid a clash with the Euro 2020 semi-finals on 8 July. Oh the irony!
We will hopefully be back bigger and better next year.
Keep running and keep safe.

MAC 300 Miles in 36 Hours Virtual Relay
We've set ourselves a challenge - the '300 Virtual Charity Relay' in support of Ashgate Hospicecare, which will take place over the weekend of 2nd and 3rd May when over 50 club members will be attempting to run 300 miles in 36 hours of continuous activity. The run will be an out and back course from home to ensure social distancing and Government physical activity rulings are observed.
MAC may have been denied their annual fund-raising event – The Peak Rail Runner-v-Steam on Easter Monday – but have found a way to raise money for the charity chosen by our members - Ashgate Hospicecare who are appealing for funds, as their specialist end of life care has never been more in demand and their funding has been devasted by the Covd i-19 crisis
Please donate if you can through our gofundme campaign page
Peak Rail 7 Race Postponed
It is with great disappointment we have to announce that the postponement of the 'Runner versus Steam' event due to be staged on Easter Monday 13th April due to the Covid-19 crisis. This decision has been taken in the best interests of competitors, supporters and volunteers and in line with updated guidance from UKA/EA and Public Health England. All entrants will be contacted shortly with further details.
COVID-19 (CORONAVIRUS) UPDATE
COVID-19 (Coronavirus) update
Many members will have seen the latest statement from England Athletics: https://www.englandathletics.org/athletics-and-running/news/coronavirus-statement/
As an affiliated organisation, it is important that we act on their advice, which is of course consistent with the latest message from the UK Government.
We will therefore be pausing training for senior and junior members with immediate effect.
Please note that the EA statement includes “Where possible, athletes and runners at all levels are encouraged to maintain their own personal fitness and keep active during this time, while following government guidelines about safe distance and safe exercise environments”.
As a committee we are evaluating what that means for us in practice. If we can support members with practical ways to maintain your motivation and training, within the confines of guidance from the government and UKA, we are keen to explore ways to help you keep active.
We will provide further updates over forthcoming days as further information and guidance is provided.
Be sensible and keep safe.
MAC Club XC 2020
Report and results from Karl Webster -
It was by the kind and generous hospitality of Brian and Deborah that this year’s cross country championships found itself at the beautiful local setting of Stancliffe Hall. The daffodils were out, the sun was doing its best to shine and the course was short but brutal.
With one lap for the under 12s, two laps for the under 17s and three for the grown-ups, 43 runners headed off around the parkland of Stancliffe which provided the opportunity for a bit of allsorts: soft grass; long sapping climbs; quick bursts across firm ground; a scramble up a bank, narrow woodland paths; and even a couple of electric fences to duck under.
In a true test of versatility it was Will Croft who led the short race round to take the boys’ title and Marlene Mettam for the girls.
Two laps were then admirably completed in the fastest times by Oli Lloyd for the lads and Poppy Lynn for the lasses.
For the seniors it was Simon Fisher whose lead never looked threatened, although young Sam Thompson ensured he couldn’t take it easy. Shelley Fairey displayed her current good form picking things up in laps 2 and 3 after doing the first one with her offspring.
MAC’s thanks go to Stancliffe Hall for the warm welcome and use of their grounds. Also all the MACs who helped out.
