Report from Alison Pye on British Masters XC
Wet is an understatement for the conditions that greeted the 8 MACs who made the short journey to Long Eaton for the British Masters Cross Country Relay Championships.
So wet in fact that Christine Howard thought the flippers in her car might have been more use than her trail shoes!
A flat fast loop of just under 3k awaited each runner.
First up was the Ladies, competing in the V35 category. Carly Spear got the team off to a great start finishing her leg in 15th. A strong run from Chris saw us move up two places with the final leg seeing Alison Pye bringing the team home in a credible 11th out of 24 teams. The ladies are super happy with this result against a strong field, which saw Bristol & West AC claim the title.
The men were next up, also competing in the V35 age group, with five runners. Patrick Wright went out hard on leg one, finishing in 16th. A great relay team debut on leg two from Denney Lau, finishing in 20th. Peter Wilmot gained a place on leg 3, and 19th position was held by John Birch on fourth leg and John Thorpe on the final lap. The honours going to a very strong team from Salford Harriers.
A great day out, superbly organised, a chance to fly the sky blue flag against national opposition. Just a shame about the knee deep bogs this year!
Massive thank you to all who turned out in the miserable conditions, I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did !
