Peter Wilmot, married to Susan, father to Sam 24, Jo 16 and James 13.  Works as a HR Manager

What is your favourite meal?  Seafood Paella, especially on the coast

Stiff drink or herbal tea?  Pint of ale

Since you have been a MAC member you have taken part in many races, what motivates you? To keep fit and healthy.  I was over 14sts in my 20s and gradually started to get fitter; first with football, then cycling (I cycled Land’s End to John O’Groats).  Have done scuba diving (Open Water), sailing and horse riding too.  Having only ever run my local Tansley Hill Race I naturally thought I should run a marathon. (Berlin - 2011)

How long have you been a member of Matlock AC? 2.5 years – One of the best things I ever did!

Some stats – PBs:  5k – 19.45; 10k – 39.32; Half Marathon (Ramathon 2016) 1.27; London Marathon 3.11.

Do you cross train, if so what other sports do you do? Cycle, play football and go to an Insanity Class at Whitworth Institute.

Other interests? Amateur dramatics.  I am in Tansley Players and Chatsworth Players.  At the end of September we are performing ‘Camille’ based on a book by Alexander Dumas at Chatsworth House.  I’m playing Armand Duvall (male lead)! It’s a bit soppy for my taste!

What is your most treasured possession? My road bike

What has been your most rewarding running challenge? My first marathon  - Berlin in 2011.  Just to get there and to complete it was a fantastic experience.

What is your favourite local run?  Tansley Hill Race.  I live in Tansley and have won the 1st local trophy quite a few times. (Only time I ever get near a race trophy)

Best advice you have ever been given?  I’ve learned loads from other runners at the club but I do remember a moment in the Amsterdam Marathon at mile 15, I ‘hit the wall’ and for the next 8-9 miles I gritted my teeth and laboured on.  Then 2 miles out a woman spectator just said ‘Relax’ as I ran past her and it was like ‘the penny dropping’ it helped me finish quite strongly.    I now tell myself to do this in all my races. (Although I do sometimes forget)

Next Sporting challenge? London Marathon 2017 where I want to try to beat my 3.11 time.  I would also like to have a go at the Fred Whitton cycle challenge in the Lakes.  112 mile sportive starting in Grasmere and taking in climbs of Kirkstone, Honister, Newlands, Whinlatter, Hardknott and Wrynose passes.

I really do not like … People who whine for whine sake. We’re only here once – what is the point in whining!

Latest music download? Glass Animals – ‘Life Itself’.  My son, Sam, is in a Disco/Funk band called Patawawa and they have just signed a record deal.  Has just performed at the Y Not Festival!

Favourite film? So many but you can’t get any better thanRaging Bull’ with Robert De Niro.  Also the utterly ridiculous but laugh out load funny ‘Step Brothers’, a comedy with Will Ferrell and John C Reilly.

TV?  All sports, especially enjoyed the recent Tour de France coverage.

The best thing about me is My wife and my family.

Do you have any ideas which Matlock AC could incorporate to improve the club? I know it’s been said before and I don’t know what the answer is but the Thursday evening sessions could to be more inclusive.
