On Saturday 25th January, the Arc of Attrition 50 mile race took place. The route starts at the Minack Theatre in Cornwall (probably the best start location ever) and heads northwards along the southwest coast path, through Lands End, Zennor, St Ives, Hayle and finishing in Porthtowan (where the race organisers kindly placed the finish line at the top of the biggest hill on the course).
The recent weather meant that underfoot conditions were challenging, on what felt like an already tough course, meaning that 28% of the starters dropped out during the race. Fortunately, MACs Jack Cummins, despite wanting to call it a day in St Ives, stuck it out and finished in 222nd place in 13 hours 50 minutes. There were 476 starters and the race was won by Tom Evans (mens) and Eleanor Davis (women’s).
There was also a 25 mile options for those not wanting to do 50 miles, and for the clinically insane, a 100 mile option that started the day before.
