Captain Greg Hopkinson reports:
On Saturday morning 9 MAC members (apologies if I have missed anyone) headed to Baslow to take on the Baslow Bolt Fell Race. Starting from Baslow church, the 7 mile route started with a steady climb over some boggy fields up to Bank woods. The route then dropped back down into the Derwent valley with a couple of flat miles along the river to Curbar offering a bit of easier running before the ominous climb to come.
The biggest climb of the race started from Cliff College and winded its way all the way up, and up, and up, until you reached Baslow edge. After following the edge runners dropped back down to Baslow down Bar Road and into the finish at the primary school.
Fortunately, this is where the Baslow Bolt really comes into its own. The Baslow Primary School PTA should really have been put in charge of running the 2022 World Cup, with every part of the day being meticulously planned from start to finish!! Hot soup, a mountain of cakes and hot drinks on tap (obviously Nescafe Azera when you’re in Baslow) meant the 7 miles of running was definitely worth it.
