Ben Nevis Race

Ben Nevis Race – Beinn Nibheis!

On Saturday 5th September, the legendary Ben Nevis Race once again took its place as a classic in the Scottish hill-running calendar.

The 16km (10 mile) out-and-back race from Fort William to the summit of Ben Nevis and back features a gruelling 1,350m (4,400ft) of climbing and attracted a strong field of around 400 athletes.

Conditions this year were particularly challenging following several days of rain, leaving the route wet underfoot. Temperatures were around 15°C at the base, becoming cooler from halfway up – conditions that were almost welcomed during the hard climb – before dropping to around -2°C at the summit. Heavy low-lying cloud added to the challenge.

The Rock on the paths at times was very challenging as it was like running on ice, myself and Mick Moorhouse represented MAC, Mick in his first Ben Race came in at 3-37 and myself 2-40, grea

t race.
