David Howarth reports
Having spent my summer at parkruns and fell races I had almost forgotten what mass participation events were like.
Nearly 1,000 runners took part in the Chatsworth 10k on a cool, damp September morning. Four MACs took part – as far as I know because you couldn’t state your club on the entry form if you weren’t also a UKA member.
The course is all within the estate mainly on roads and tracks with one enjoyable downhill rougher section where fell runners had an advantage. First run in 2008 the race raises money for Blythe House Hospice and this year’s return was £44,500. Ellie Salomoni was running it for the eighth time. It was a well organised event that didn’t overdo it on the mass event razzmatazz. Enjoyable and MACs scored particularly well in the Vet results.
