Les Thurston reports on the Chicken Run, Hayfield:
A small cohort of MACS headed to Hayfield on Saturday for the Chicken Run, about 8.3 miles and 1400 feet of climb over Lantern Pike and the moors beyond.
Strong winds on the tops but the rain held off and warm sunshine greeted the later finishers. The stand-out performances were Mick Moorhouse’s 1:19:03 for 1st MV70 and Jan Forrester’s 1:39:15 for 1st FV70 – an age group course record on the new course started in 2022! A bit further back were Mick Fowler 1:48:35 and Les Thurston 1:50:23.
There was also a shorter route option of 6.4 miles which Sally Owen chose and finished in 1:20:28
The winners of the main race were Barney Nikolich (Pennine FR) 56:20 and Ruth Jones (Salford) 1:03:38
