Coniston 14

CONISTON 14

As quoted from the organisers website “The Coniston 14 is probably the most beautiful road race in Britain.”

The scenic 14 mile race takes you on an anti-clockwise route around the lovely Coniston Lake with the Old Man of Coniston (a mountain overlooking the village) peering down checking you’re putting in the effort.

You start in the village and head south along the main road to the end of the lake, before heading back on the other side on quieter single track roads to the village. At mile 10/11 there is a cheeky hill that seemed to go on a little longer than you wanted by that point in the race, but your efforts were rewarded by a decent downhill after.
There were plenty of supporters along the route, and the atmosphere coming back through the village to the finish was incredible. The streets were lined and people were cheering from the pubs as we all made the last efforts to shave a few seconds off our times.

This year the race took place on Saturday 21st March at 11:00, attracting 1143 runners from all over the country coming to enjoy a piece of the Lake District. We were lucky enough to experience superb weather too!

Two MAC’s travelled up, neither realising they had both entered but enjoyed the surprise of seeing another sky blue MAC vest on the start line.

The winner, Phil Waite came in at an astonishingly fast 01:13:51!
Cherry Moger brought home the first sky blue vest in 01:52:18, and not far behind Lisa Walton came in with a course PB of 02:28:43

The entire event was well organised by the local village committee and a good time was had by all.
