Dovedale Big Daddy Fell race

On Sunday, 2nd February 2025, the inaugural Dovedale Big Daddy race lived up to its name. A tough 20.4km course with 1,400m of ascent, taking runners on a rollercoaster of nine climbs through the Manifold and Dovedale valleys.

The race kicked off from Ilam Primary School with clear blue skies and ideal conditions underfoot. Being a partially marked course, there were a number of unmarked sections allowing some to take a thornier route. The last few miles packed a punch, culminating in steep climbs up Flagpole Hill, Thorpe Cloud and Bunster Hill (a couple of times!).

Dark Peak took the crown with Finlay Grant (2:03) and Harriet Wingfield (2:25) claiming victory in the open men’s and women’s categories.

6 MACs took part, and it was great to see a few MAC supporters marshalling on the course and at the finish line – thanks everyone!

First back were Simon Hoggart and Bob Foreman seconds apart, with Bob taking 1st M60 (2:41). They were followed by Sally Hale (3:23), Martin Lea (3:39), Alaina Bond (3:47) and Mick Fowler (4:09). All runners were rewarded with a mighty spread of hot soup, tea, coffee and cake.

Thanks to the organisers for a well-organised event, and challenging route. Definitely a race to watch for next year!

Lastly, a huge well done to Bob Foreman taking 1st in the M60 category for the overall Limestone Series 24/25.
