Eyam Half Marathon 14 May 2023

Luke Beresford reports:

Four MAC representatives took on the Notorious Hilly Eyam Half Marathon today, in perfect sunny slightly warm running conditions at the plague village of Derbyshire.

The route climbs out of the village up onto the moor of Sir William Hill and loops out on lovely traffic free country roads passing Derbyshire highest pub ‘The Barrel Inn’ at over 1200ft above sea level and through the tiny hamlets of Bretton and Abney descending down to the Plough Inn on the outskirts of Hathersage at mile 9. This is were the excitement starts or perhaps punishment is a better description. You are greeted with a punchy 2 mile climb back up towards Sir William Hill, before finally descending back to the village for the finish.

Both myself & Nick Gant avoided the bus of shame today escaping the dreaded DNF and made the finish line in good stead. Darren Spibey looking cool with his shades finished well without barely a bead of sweat making light of the hills.

Finally Martin Lea notched up another Eyam Half finish with over ten Eyam Halfs to his belt looking strong and sporting a smile at the finish. Post race warm down was spent with sweet ripe oranges, flapjack, and mint choc chip ice cream as recovery. This is a superbly well organised local Half Marathon and highly recommend.
