Eyam Half Marathon
A lovely scenic race well organised and marshalled by local volunteers. This year was very popular, selling out all 550 places, with a strong Sheffield contingent.
The scenic course starts with a mile warmup around the village, before starting the first climb up Sir William Hill Road. This levels out after a couple of miles until you reach the gliding club. A long descent follows through Abney, before reaching the outskirts of Hathersage at 9 miles. Then the second climb up to Eyam Moor begins, continuing to just short of 12 miles when runners welcome the brow of the hill. A rapid descent follows for the last mile to the cheering crowds back in the village and the finish line.
The race is not one for a pb, with 1750 ft of ascent but attracted two MAC’s. Cherry Moger finished in 1:54 48, despite not feeling great and Ian Pitkin was second MV60 in 1:41:
