Grindleford Gallop

Grindleford Gallop

On Saturday 15th March a quartet of MACs took on the Grindleford Gallop. Greg Hopkinson, Caroline Robertson, James Pinder and Jon Burch lined up to run the 21 miles and 3000ft of ascent taking in the sights of the Hope Valley. These included Grindleford, Eyam, Chatsworth Estate, Baslow and Curbar. The event is organised in aid of Grindleford School and is always a fast sell out. It can be entered by runners and walkers.

It was a sunny morning to start which did turn windy, cold and overcast as the day progressed.

Greg was returning on invitation after finishing first male last year but an appearance from Jack Scott, sponsored athlete and winner of the Winter Spine Race, was going to make retaining this a tricky affair!

Greg came away with a top 10 finish. Caroline came away with a sprained wrist, bashed pride and a visit to the Whitworth after an awkward stile crossing 😣 Some great efforts on a tough course.

Greg Hopkinson was first MAC back in 8th place in 2.39, followed by James Pinder in 103rd, Caroline Robertson 262nd and Jon Burch 315th. There were 438 finishers in the runner category.

Jack Scott went on to set a sickeningly fast and slightly unfathomable new course record of 2.19.
