Hairy Helmet Relay 2026
After a week of fairly unsettled weather, the sun welcomed runners at the Hairy Helmet Relay which consists of a two and a bit mile loop around Darley Park at Darley Abbey, Derby.
This year Matlock AC had 6 teams entered across a number of categories with team names that had a villainous theme. It was great to see a junior team representing the club for the first time in a number of years. They did the club proud, with ‘Scar’s Superstars’ coming in second place in the Boys(<64) category.
The first team back from Matlock were the appropriately named ‘Merciless Mingers’ in the Male Super Vets (200+) category. Indeed they showed no mercy winning their category with easy. But you also know the saying “age before beauty” as they were closely followed by the relatively youthful ‘Vader’s Raiders’ in the Male Vets (160+).
Also scooping a category win were ‘Pinhead’s Pacers’ in the Mixed Super Vets (200+) category. Two further teams represented the Club with ‘The Catwomen’ coming 6th in their category and ‘Riddler’s Racers’ finishing in 8th.
So in total the club took 2 category wins and 1 second place. Great running!
