Greg Hopkinson reports
On Sunday 12 MACs took on Holymoorside 10K, part of this years road champs.
The race is famous for it’s long hill up Loads Road, 4km of steady climb from the start. And the fact it was the hottest weekend of the year so far made it even tougher.
But the views from the top were pretty splendid, and after a couple of flat kilometres on beeley moor we started the steady decline back into the village.
A final sprint around the playing field and it was time for about 5 pints of water, an ice cream and some suspicious looking cakes made by some probably quite unhygienic scouts.
A classic race supporting a great community group. We were all also pleased to take home a commemorative notebook and pen, looking forward to seeing Dennis using this at the next committee meeting, and some mild sunburn.
Myself and Luke also managed to take home 1st and 2nd prize. I can’t wait to get a pretty shoddily made wooden trophy on to the mantle piece!! At least it gave the scouts an activity to do!!
