Hope Wakes Fell Race

Hope Fell Race 6.18 miles 1,483ft ascent.
We were treated to a fantastic summer evening for Hope Fell Race. A beautiful night to be galavanting on the fells and trails. A smaller field than usual, likely due to the football,
Starting from Hope Sports Pavilion, runners first enjoy a short section on tarmac through Hope before beginning to gently ascend. We enjoyed a climb up to Wooler Knoll and down into the beautiful pine needle lined forest floor over Ladybower. The forest paths continued for another mile or so before a steep up hill section through the trees. The recent rain made for a fair chunk of mud and sludge and care was needed on the slippery rocks. Now it was time to join the walking conga line to ascend Win Hill summit and wade through the heather on the narrow path to the top. Focus was needed to keep your balance through some of the more uneven, steeper sections. A fast descent awaited after reaching the summit through sandy gullies before a dash through a few steeply descending fields. This was great fun! Two more fields and a couple of stiles on jelly legs and we were back at the pavilion to a warm welcome. A brilliant race that was very well marked and marshalled throughout. Much enjoyed by everyone with a lovely atmosphere.
