Humber Bridge Half Marathon – 25 September 2022

Andy Mellor reports:

The Humber Bridge Half Marathon took place on 25 September. The event initially included a marathon, which MACs Andy, Dan and Dennis entered – and then with just weeks to go, the full marathon was sadly cancelled.

Dan and Dennis did what proper runners should do – they’d trained for a marathon so were going to do one! Andy however was perhaps just a little too eager to take the organiser’s generous offer of running the half instead.

The route is undulating – the big bridge should probably have been a clue to that. The route description also includes reference to an appealing ‘cardiac hill’ around mile 9. Our navigationally challenged chair had never troubled sub-90 in a half, but with all that marathon training, a well marshaled course, and a runner carrying a big 1:30 flag to hang onto, surely this was the day for a PB?

Mission accomplished – chip time of 1:28:47 and 24th place overall. Other notable achievements were “first Andy” and “first MAC” – the benefit of being the only MAC entrant.

There were 633 finishers overall, the race being won by Shane Grace from St Theresas AC in 01:14:08
