Jan Forrester reports on the Dorset Doddle 55k/3,000m; a run on the coastal path from Weymouth to Swanage, as part of her training for the Himalayan 100 trail race.
‘I last did this run in 2005, when fewer runners took part, with 3 members of my old running club, Biggleswade AC, when, aged 53, I was 1st lady in 7 hours 35 mins. The adage 'You have got to be in it to win it' really came into it's own, as during the race the lady frontrunner fell off the cliff and had to be air lifted by helicopter to hospital and, no, I did not push her! This coastline is notorious for landslip too!
This time it was me and my son Joe.
Luckily the recent wet weather abated and it was dry and clear and with a tail wind.
We set off from Weymouth at 8.30 a.m. And 8 hours 14 minutes later arrived at Swanage.
The views were incredible and the beauty of the English coastline quite breathtaking.’
