Report from Simon Flitter -
Sept 4th was a cold, wet and windy evening on the tops of the Derbyshire hills but this didn’t stop 36 MAC runners descending on the Alport Heights to form a dozen teams to take on the Alport Heights Relay.
The event in its second year after moving from the Malt Shovel Inn saw 49 teams set off on the 1.8 mile loop from the Belper Amateur cricket ground. The route takes in a few sharp corners and short sharp hills to give just 100ft of climbing.
An outstanding performance was delivered from the junior members showing what a promising future we have for the club. Team ‘3 Ronnies’ made up of Jacob Jones (11:40), Logan Fairey (12:20) and Will Croft (11:40 – 14 seconds behind dad) brought the team home in 1st place in the U17 category, 16th overall. Up at the front with 1 lap to go, MAC was holding on to 1st and 2nd place with Birtie (Strongarms and Miller) setting off with a head start on Zak (Chuckle Triplets). After leaving the cricket field we were left wondering can Birtie hold off with his lead or can Zak chase him down. Both were determined to get the team home first but it was Zak who pulled out the fastest MAC lap of the evening to come home in 1st place, closely followed by Birtie just 7 seconds later.Due to some technical difficulties there was a delay in getting the full results out. This didn’t matter as the bar was open selling a selection of fine local ales.Full MAC results were as follows.
