Nicky Dick reports -
The Grand Final of the Triathlon World Series was held in Lausanne, the headquarters of the Olympic Organisation and of the ITU.
Thousands of elites, paras, juniors and age groupers raced in their World Championships.
The swim was in the warm clear waters of Lake Geneva, so warm wetsuits were banned. The bike legs were through the city, on closed roads with some steep uphills, fast descents and, making for some fantastic racing in packs. The run took athletes up above the Olympic Museum and back along the shores of the lake.
First Nicky raced the International Federations relay on the Friday, for GB, and took on the bike leg, three 5k laps at breakneck speed. They finished 7th of 30 teams, the winners being the IOC team. Next morning was the sprint race and after a "dreadful" swim Nicky made up 21 places on the bike to start the run but managed to finish 11th of the GB athletes. The field was staggering with many ex Olympians and Elites now racing at Age Group level and athletes from all corners of the globe.
The Elite race for the women saw Georgie Taylor Brown, Jess Learmonth and Katy Zafires battle neck and neck for almost the entire run, nobody able to guess the finish. in the end Georgie dropped back, and Jess took it from Katy within site of the finish.
The mens race had less of a British success with Jonny Brownlee finishing off the podium and the big Norwegian Blumenthal pulling off a stunning victory
