Hopping on the 100k bandwagon last weekend, two MACs took on the Jacobrite 100 — the longest of seven races held during the Skyline Scotland weekend, offering everything from Sky to trail running.
The Jacobite kicked off at midnight on Saturday, taking runners from Bridge of Orchy to the Nevis Range in Fort William. Described as runnable (‘ish’ I’d add), the route took runners through 6 miles of bogs and bracken alongside Loch Etive, across rocky paths via the beautiful Lairig Gartain, before rejoining the West Highland Way up the Devil’s Staircase and descending into Kinlochleven.
We headed towards the final climb, 600m up the Ben Nevis tourist path, then escaping onto a quieter, yet tricky track round to the North Face and CIC Hut before dropping back down to the race village.
Out of 99 starters, Tom Withers finished in 17:16 (33rd male / 42nd overall), and I came in at 17:49 (11th female / 45th overall). The male and female winners finished in 11:37 and 12:47 respectively.
