On Saturday 12th July the Lakeland Trails 100k race takes place. Beginning at 00.01am (midnight) from Ambleside, the course takes in many of the most scenic places in the Lake District. For MAC Jack Cummins was entered. The midnight start was truly unique and running through the night and round Haweswater Reservoir at sunrise was truly memorable. Unfortunately as the race went on, the heat on the climb up to Grisdale Tarn took its toll and I started to feel unwell and made the call to retire at Grasmere (75k). The right call in the heatwave conditions, and one 60% of the other runners also made over the course of the route. Overall it was a great weekend despite the outcome and Lakeland Trails put on a number of events over the year, ranging from 5k-100k, that I would recommend people look into if they are interested.
