Lincolnshire Farm Run
Sunday 9th August, and a MAC duo decided that the sensible thing to do during yet another hot spell was to head to Lincolnshire for a race – the Lincolnshire Farm Run is a circuit event giving runners a six hour window to run whatever distance they want – for maraDan, this was due to be marathon number 80.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the event is based on a farm, and the route won’t necessarily win prizes for its scenery. Heading out from the start, runners ran down the edge of a field. At the top of the field, we proceeded into another field. And once field number two had been conquered, yep – we entered another field. The main point of note being that the outward stretch was slightly uphill all the way. After three fields, runners were in danger of getting overwhelmed with the excitement, so we looped around the top of the field and headed back down the edge of the three fields toward the start and finish area. There were some moderately exciting pumpkins in the final field to look at.
And that was the lap. It might sound pretty uninteresting, but the trick is to take the time on subsequent laps to hunt out points of interest that we might have overlooked on the inaugural circuit. And we had a further 16 opportunities to see something exciting (spoiler alert – we didn’t).
The first lap was uncomfortably warm – throughout the morning it got worse and approaching midday the majority of runners were merrily jeffing their way around each circuit. Our duo were no exception – much effing and jeffing, questioning life choices and fantasising about ice cream.
The event was organised by Circuit Running (results will be available at https://www.circuitrunning.co.uk/e/lincolnshire-farm-run-14226/results)
The events are low key, friendly and well organised – with a medal for all finishers, together with a goodie bag of pop, sweets and crisps.
Andy and Dan both survived the marathon in times that won’t be troubling Sabastian Sawe. And they saw some horses, donkeys and Alpacas too.
For Dan, another important milestone on his 100 marathon mission. And for Andy, absolutely no sensible reason for doing it whatsoever.
