Lochness Marathon

Loch Ness Marathon Report

On Sun 29th Sept. I took on the 21st Loch Ness Marathon. This race starts on the moors between Fort Augustus & Foyers. A pipe band play as you cross the start line, a very nice mile or so down hill then followed by a gentle undulating run along the banks of the Loch. Until you reach mile 18 & 19 which is a long slog uphill. The course flattens out for the finish into Inverness.
I ran a perfect race reaching the half in 1hr 42, only for the wheels to fall off at 17m just before the hill !. I struggled on with pain in my knee the rest of the way. At mile 24 I realised I was still on for a good time picking the pace up ever so slightly, I finished in 3hr 51m 32s. A PB 846 / 3784.

The organisation, views & race village were excellent. Lots of goodies, hot soup & a roll to boot.

The race was won by Moray Pryde, Lothian Running Club 2:19:26 New record.
First Lady was Melissah Gibson, Ealing Eagles 2:54:39.
