MACs at parkrun (19 August 2023)

Dennis Holmes reports (whilst post parkrun rehydrating in a lovely café bar):

Ok so here we go with todays round up of MAC members parkrun activities.

First up this week is me with tourist of the week at Mura di Lucca parkrun which is in Florence Italy and absolutely beautiful. My time was 27.48 place 45 and my carbon footprint said I have generated 0.2 tonnes of CO2 in coming here.

Starting off alphabetically by parkrun name , Hayley and Steve Gill were at Alvaston today where Hayley came 4th in 18.02 and 1st lady. Steve ran 23.04 for 38th place.

Chasing a number 4 for his “Wilson” at Epworth Equestrian parkrun, Roy Austin had another cracking run in 23.21 for 16th place with Chris Rouse not far behind 25.48, 40th.

At our local Monsal trail parkrun today 3 MACS all had storming runs whilst Ian Watson turned out to run with some excuse about a wedding. Shelley Fairey ran a super fast 19.52 for 13th place and 2nd lady. One stride behind her finishing in 19.54 and 14th was Bob Foreman recording an outstanding age grading of 83.5%! Completing our trio of speedsters, Jim James Thorneycroft, ran 21.30 for 35th place.
Ian the vegan runner meanwhile jogged around in 23.49 for 81st place.

Keeping on the theme of veteran runners who improve with age, young vet40 Luke Beresford, completed Clumber park parkrun today in 16.42, 1st finisher and age grading 81.14% and a new parkrun PB. Well run Luke!

Another of our athletes who defies age is Kate Ruffell who completed Lincoln parkrun in a super 23.19 for 34th overall and 2nd lady.

Having made the decision not to be childish Rob and Sarah Witham ran Nostel Priory parkrun which is one of the most scenic and a bit undulating parkruns you can find.(see photos). Rob ran 23.23, 30th with Sarah 23.40, 32nd and 3rd lady.

Unable to avoid being childish, Sarah Walton made the short trip to Penistone parkrun where she ran 31.02 for 109th place.

Adding to his ever growing carbon footprint, Gav Elliott headed South this week to Pocket parkrun where he continued his consistent running to grab 24th place in 23.36.

Penultimately (as it currently stands) Simon Fisher and Louise Rowley were mini tourists visiting Rosliston parkrun today which is quite undulating I believe. Simon coming back from injury ran 20.22 for 5th place with Louise finishing in a super 23.46 for 19th place and 2nd lady.

Finally at Shipley Country parkrun Jay Bird ran a steady 26.17 for 35th place whilst Christine Howard did what we all should do from time to time volunteered to marshal.

As it turns out Final was not really final as 2 more MACS were touristing at North Yorkshire Water Park parkrun today. Ben Meakin ran a brisk 19.24 for 3rd place with Alice Candy also pretty rapid in 22.25 for 29th and 4th lady.

I’m pretty sure other MACS volunteer at parkrun too but I don’t often pick up on this and include you in the report. As usual, let me know if you have parkrun today and I have missed you.

Happy parkrun day!

FINAL NOTE: On 16th September a number of us are planning to run the relatively new Epworth Equestrian parkrun. It would be great to see as many MAC vests there as possible. Please wear your club vest, Luke Beresford!! and no lime green shorts please.
