Mickleden Straddle
On Sunday, runners gathered at Langsett Res for the Mickleden Straddle – a 14 mile Category BL fell race across varied moorland, bogs and well-packed trail, with nearly 700m of climbing.
UTMB winner Tom Evans was not given an easy win (with some great race pics showing this) in 1:39 with MAC’s Dan Haworth finishing just a minute behind.
Emily Cowper-Coles of Dark Peak claimed first lady in 1:54 defending her win from the previous year.
A little further back, two more MACs took on the race. Tom Withers was fresh off a trip to the Alps, while I had an enjoyable run until a bad overtake resulted in a kick to the nose, a not so graceful end to the day!
All was forgotten with excellent soup sandwiches and cake for finishers as well as a bottle of Rescue Beer in support of the Woodhead Mountain Rescue team.
