Milton Keynes Marathon
Picture the scene, it’s Christmas Day 2025, and everyone is enjoying their lunch and the festivities. In a Matlock household, after the crackers have been pulled, a thoughtful husband (you be the judge) produces an additional gift and hands it to his wife. The gift is an entry to the Milton Keynes Marathon, training plan not supplied!
The course, which starts outside Stadium MK takes runners into the town centre before using the Redway system and takes in five small villages with thatched cottages and ancient churches, before dissecting the Open University Campus. The finish line is located inside Stadium MK. The course has a number of rolling ups and downs, but nothing too challenging. Raceday conditions were perfect, low double figure temperatures and no wind or rain.
For Matlock AC, Lisa Jones, who must be grateful for the gift, completed her first marathon with a cracking run to finish in 4:02:59, after suffering with cramp in the final 3 miles. Dan Ashcroft finished in 3:33:15.
As race day was on the 4th May, the medal was the iconic MK cow with a lightsaber to celebrate Star Wars day.
