No Walk in the Park

Mike Blair reports

The first round of the NWITP X Run Forest 5k summer series kicked off in style on Friday night under clear blue skies.
This is a four round series where your best three count to your final position in the series, so those that missed out can still get along for the series, or for the individual races. (Enter ONLINE or pay on the night £5)
The clear blue vests of 5 MAC’s were still visible in the 54 strong field. With an impressive 23 runners running under the magic 20 minute mark, the weather had clearly kept things brisk.
Keeping up with the Jones’, were the Jones’ with three of the family taking part. Lisa, flying along and finishing 6th in the Ladies race (22.59) was joined with young Jacob and Gary battling it out for the bragging rights of the household, coming in 27th and 31st respectively (20:38 and 21:43)
Left to fight the corner for the more senior gentlemen of the club were the ever rapid Tim Clayton, sweeping up the V60 win in 19:31 for 20th OA and Mike Blair who came in 2nd in both V40 and OA in 16:14, having being handed his posterior on a plate by Dan Nugent from Mansfield Harriers, who took the win in 15:53.
Charles Bell from NDRC rounded out the podium for the men in 16:17 which has kickstarted the Mike and Charlie battle for the next three races.
The winner of the women’s race, again from Mansfield Harriers, Charley Whysall, is in fact, a junior, who ran an eye watering time of 19:31. She is 11 years old! A bright future there no doubt. There must be something in the water at Mansfield……
The cricket club opened the bar for the event, so post race refreshments were welcomed and earned.
The next round is the 23rd of June at 7:30pm.
