Bob Foreman reports:
Refreshed from an extra hour in bed, four veteran MAC’s joined 58 others at the intriguingly named Windy Harbour for the Padfield Fell Race.
Just over 4 miles and with 850 feet of ascent this is another of Des Gibbons organised Glossop Fell Races.
An un-seasonally warm late October day made for warm work as the runners left the saturated start/finish field and onto the runnable track up to the derelict shooting cabin on the moors. A fast, rough in places, descent through a couple of disused quarries and past the TP at Cock Hill. A sharp drop into a stream bed before an equally sharp climb out of it where the outward track was revisited and followed back to the start/finish field.
The first runner home was Eammon Clowes, 18yrs of Newcastle Staffs RC in 29:59. The first lady was Joanne Mosley, RATRunner and 14th overall in 36:01.
For MAC
8th Bob Foreman 34:23 1st M60
32nd Mick Moorhouse 41:17 1st M70
37th Gordon Cresswell 42:54
52nd Mick Fowler 50:08
It was good to meet Gordon Cresswell, who I believe was one of the MAC founder members, and he was wearing a very cool, early MAC vest which dated from before Mick Moorhouse joined the club!
This is a cracking little race which deserves a bigger turnout. The next of Des Gibbons races is Wormstones on New Years Eve. This always has a good MAC turnout. See you there!
