Parkrun News

Parkrun news Saturday 5th October 2024
Only 19 MAC members ran or volunteered at parkrun this weekend with some taking it easy prior to the first Cross country fixture at Shipley park on Sunday. Dennis Holmes completed his German parkrun double at Aachener Weiher parkrun in Cologne with a steady 26.18 on an undulating course in a lovely park quite near to the city centre. Lisa Walton was on Car Park Marshal Duty again at Alvaston whilst also having a gentle stroll around this pancake flat course. Andrew Watson completed Ashbourne Recreation Ground parkrun for the 39th time in the impressive time of 22.36 fort 17th place. Rob and Beccy took on the very hilly Bestwood Village parkrun for the very first time obviously having decided to go steady so as to save their legs for Sundays XC race. Roy Austin meanwhile did not take it easy running 23.04 at Glossop for 16th place accompanied by Chris Rouse and Sarah Austin finishing in 28.17 and 32.13 respectively. Gav Elliott possibly took it easy at Markeaton running a 25.04 for 146th place. There were 4 MAC runners and 2 volunteers at the local Monsal Trail this week with Harriet Atkin running a great time of 22.20 and just preceding Paul Clark who finished in 22.27 for 30th place. Ann Armistead ran a 33.15 to record another super age grading of 71.63%! Les Thurston ran his second “home” parkrun at Penrose for the 36th time in 28.20 for 128th position and first vet70. At the penultimate venue of Sheffield Castle which I recall to be a particularly hilly course Luke Beresford ran an impressive 17.39 to gain yet another first finisher whilst Jay Bird also recorded a great time of 24.17 for 17th place. Last but certainly not least, Sarah Witham took on the equally hilly course also in South Yorkshire at Wakefield Thornes and finished in a super time of 24.30 for 2nd lady finisher and 40th place overall. Well done everyone, particularly those of you who also ran the cross country on Sunday!
