For the second consecutive weekend the weather has had the upper hand and caused mass cancellation of local parkruns. Only 3 MAC members found somewhere to get out for their 5k fix.
Sarah Witham and David Bowden discovered the only surviving parkrun in Nottingham Forest Rec parkrun that as a consequence entertained 569 finishers! Sarah put in slightly more effort than Dave completing the course in 24.54 for 9th female finisher and 108th overall place. Dave had more of a jog around finishing in a time of 31.27 for 344th position.
Dennis Holmes beat the freeze with a planned visit down to London where he chose Wormwood Scrubs parkrun on the basis that it is an all grass course and it did not cancel last week. Despite such meticulous planning his run was still in doubt up until the final minutes with the Run Director changing the course to avoid ice and having to get the measuring wheel out to ensure it was the full 5k. A possibility of a very last minute taxi ride to Gladstone parkrun was still on the cards at 8.55!
Dennis completed the modified 2 lap course in 27.01 achieving a first vet 60-64 result and 41st out of 127 finishers. Post parkrun token sorting then took place at the Haringey Athletics Stadium club cafe by the side of the track made famous many decades ago by Linford Christie after whom the stadium is now named.
Well done all. Hopefully this is the last of the icy weather and we will see a return to normal numbers next week.
