Parkrun Report

parkrun round up Saturday 3 May 2025

26 participants at 12 different venues with at least 3 of these being first time venues on the list for MAC’s and some excellent running across the UK.

Our Black Rocks faithful were out in force once more with all ages and genders covered mostly by families Jones and Flitter.

The first new parkrun added to our club list is Crinan Canal which I had to research and found to be somewhere near Oban in the West of Scotland. Kate Ruffell ran her usual excellent pace finishing in 23.56 for 3rd lady and 11th overall.

The second new parkrun added to the list was Brockenhurst parkrun which is completely at the other end of the UK down in the New Forest in Hampshire. Here, Dan Howarth bagged another first finisher with a tidy if not spectacular 16.04 and an 81.22% age grading.

Much closer to home Captain Greg almost bagged another first finisher but had to be content with 2nd place in a time of 17.18 which is not bad for a bit of a bumpy Sheffield course.

Sarah Witham made the relatively short journey to North Manchester and Heaton park, which from memory has quite a good hill in it in the first half, so 24.17 and a 67.40% age grading is a good result on that course.

Roy and Sarah returned to Macclesfield parkrun for some unknown reason as I found this one of the toughest parkrun’s with several good hills and multi surface terrain to contend with. It does have very nice views though. Roy volunteered to pace 27 minutes and exceeded his brief by running 26 minutes or 25.57 per strava!

Ed James was not the sole MAC at Monsal Trail with a fine 18.57 for 5th place with Ian Watson hot on his tail in 7th place and a time of 19.03. Ian also found time to barcode scan after his run. Nick Gant was also a volunteer at Monsal Trail.

Cherry Moger and son Kalle visited the picturesque Nostell parkrun for their Saturday 5k, whilst Paul Clark and new MAC member Malcolm Betts were out and about at Rother Valley recording times of 23.43 and 26.16 which meant that they almost tied on age grading percentages of 62%!

At the penultimate venue of Sherwood Pines in Nottinghamshire Birtie West put in a steady 21.37 performance for 21st position, and finally, Dennis Holmes this week turned up on the West Coast of Africa at Walvis Bay Parkrun, Namibia where he ran his new African PB time of 25.03 and finished in 25th place out of 211 finishers and obviously gains another MAC tourist award.
