Parkrun news Saturday 21 December
16 runners and volunteers ventured out in the wind and rain at 9 different parkrun venues on Saturday. Most showed uncharacteristic good sense and stayed relatively close to home. Alvaston, Ashbourne, Blickling, Brierley Forest and Monsal Trail were the” local” venues hosting the majority of our regular parkrunners. Showing his characteristic lack of sense, Jay Bird visited Newark parkrun where he ran a reasonably paced 24.45 for 52nd place. Roy and Sarah Austin made a return visit to the almost local Rother Valley Country park parkrun where Roy ran a steady 24.43 for 52nd place with Sarah finishing in 28.47 for 167th position.
Perhaps the second least sensible parkrun venue chosen this weekend was Wisbech parkrun in Lincolnshire. Characteristically flat this 4 lap park course chosen by Dennis Holmes purely because it starts with a letter “W” which could equally apply to wet and windy which it certainly was. Joining the 24 minute club, Dennis ran a 24.56 for 41st place. Taking the tourist trophy this weekend was Sarah Witham who chose the perfect time to visit one of Englands hilliest parkruns in the county where inclement weather is always highly likely. Despite the 600 feet of climb at Whinlatter Forest, Sarah enjoyed the terrain and beautiful scenery so much that she spent just over 28 minutes enjoying it finishing in 21st place overall and 5th lady.
