Parkrun Report

Parkrun news Saturday 18 January 2025
Following last weeks lowest ever MAC parkrun turn out with just 5 runners this weekend has set new records with 29 of us either running, volunteering or both at 11 different locations. To add to the excitement this weekend not one but two local events started with Black Rocks being right in our own backyard and definitely within running distance of many members homes. The other new event, Vicar Water Country Park is just the other side of Mansfield in Nottinghamshire and is very accessible with plenty of car parking and from early accounts a nice one lap course. Being from Mansfield myself this parkrun will evoke happy childhood memories of summer days spent playing on the slag heaps and coal yards of Clipstone Colliery,’ which with the twin headstocks rising 200 feet above the ground are an impressive monument to the 77 men who died while working at this historic coal mine. History lesson over and back to the running. There were several impressive performances on Saturday with 6 members achieving the 70%+ age grading score often seen as something of a watershed between those of us who are real runners and those who will forever remain fun runners. Captain Greg and Chairman Andy are obviously the real deal, and Luke Beresford, despite still recovering from injury after his argument with a bollard, all were 70% plus runners. David Davidson in the vet 75-79 category and Mark Moriarty in the vet 55-59 category also eclipsed the 70% mark. However the top two performances of the week must be Ayako Yokoyama-Nichols with a 74.28% age grading recorded at Monsal Trail parkrun where she finished 31st in a time of 23.08 and another stellar run from Kate Ruffell at Cannock Chase parkrun where her 40th overall and 3rd lady finish in a time of 23.41 earned the super 80.79% age grading! Well run ladies!
Apologies that I can’t mention everyone who achieved great things and thanks to the volunteers without which parkrun would not take place.
Finally, if you wish to continue to have your parkrun results picked up in these reports each week can you please enter Matlock AC as one of your 5 clubs in your parkrun profile and ensure that you pay your MAC subs each year.
