parkrun roundup 16 August 2025

Dennis Holmes reports

26 members ran, walked or volunteered at 13 different venues spread across the length of the country from Cornwall to Cumbria this weekend.
Black Rocks was again the go to venue with 8 members running plus 2 volunteers. MAC were led home by Chris Gillott in 19th place and 21.07 with Gary Jones and Andrew Watson not far behind grabbing 27 and 28th places. Sarah Witham was first MAC lady in 22.56 and Emily Jones scored our highest age grading of the day with a remarkable 75.07% from her 24.08 finish. Ian Pitkin and Oscar Bridges donned the marshal hi-viz vests for MAC.
Monsal Trail was the second most popular venue with 2 members running and Andy Mellor run directing once more.
Greg Hopkinson was first finisher at Henley on Thames parkrun in a time of 18.54 whilst Les Thurston got an age category win down at Penrose in Cornwall.
Andrew Donoher and Jill Neville both had great runs at Hartlepool parkrun, Andrew finishing in 28th place in 22.10 and Jill recording a time of 25.28 for 78th place.
Kate Ruffell chose one of the hilliest parkruns in the UK at Whinlatter Forest which was reflected in her finish time of 27.58 for 37th place.
Lisa Walton had another good run at Alvaston park where she recorded 29.30 and added to her volunteer credits by doing the First Timers Briefing for the first time.
Roy and Sarah Austin stayed local at Brierley Forest and possibly saved their legs a little in anticipation of the Newark Half Marathon to be completed on Sunday.
Lastly but not least, Dennis Holmes ventured to Inch Beach, County Kerry in Ireland to mix with the top parkrun tourists in the world who love nothing but the obsession that is alphabet hunting! This possibly earns him this weeks tourist award although Les Thurstons journey to Penrose in Cornwall could be a serious competitor.
Well run everyone.
