Parkrun news 02 November 2024
23 members spread across 15 venues including parkrun’s in Germany and The Netherlands new to this group !!
Starting at the top with Alvaston parkrun a new Old member to this group Simon Flitter was spotted having a cheeky stroll around the park in 21.15 for a 30th position. I’m sure that this was just a warm up and sub 20’s will soon follow. Lisa Walton completed her usual double, grabbing both the run and the volunteer credit with her excellent car park marshalling skills!
Possibly thinking that travelling to Amsterdam for the Amsterdamse Bos parkrun would guarantee him this weeks tourist award, Andrew Watson ran a fine 21.27 for 36th place and a fantastic 70.47% age grading. Little did he know that Jo Lloyd had similar plans for a trip to Rheinpark parkrun in Cologne, Germany where a 31.36 run secured her 22nd position and the more important prize of this weeks MAC tourist award.
No fewer than 5 MACS chose Brierley Forest Country park for their Saturday morning 5k with Luke and Cherry saving a little bit in the legs for their National Cross Country relay runs in the afternoon. Roy and Sarah Austin put in a little more effort by the look of it whilst Megan was definitely taking it easy.
Another new MAC to this group, but this time a young one, Oscar Szabo, running in the SM18-19 category, ran Cardiff parkrun for his 4th time and finished in a time of 19.47 and 49th position out of 942 finishers at one of the UK’s largest and most competitive parkruns. Welcome to the group.
At the other end of the experience scale, Simon Brister in the VM75-79 category running at Fell Foot for his 30th time recorded another phenomenal time of 24.36 for 38th position and an age grading score of 77.03%
At Lyme Park near Stockport, Laura Bassett was taking on the almost fell run parkrun that I consider to be one of the most challenging courses that I have completed and recording an impressive time of 25.24 for 35th place. Not so far away at Middleton Woods parkrun near Leeds, Kate Ruffell also was showing a great turn of pace finishing in 24.56 for 18th place and another fantastic age grading of 76.74%.
Moving South to Sheffield Jay Bird had a good run at Millhouses with a 24.12 and 107th place finish. At our local Monsal Trail parkrun Ayoko Yokoyama-Nicholls had a cracking run completing the course in 22.23 for 30th place and a super 76.77 age grading. Also at Monsal Trail were Jaygo and Hugo Reynolds finishing in 47th and 48th positions and times of 23.42 & 23.42 which is pretty amazing for this father and son duo.
Now becoming a fixture at Moors Valley parkrun, Paul Clark put in another solid performance with a 22.27 and 67th place finish.
Mini UK tourist, Sarah Witham added another venue to her ever increasing list with a visit to Roundhay Park Leeds where a time of 24.33 for 106th place scored a pretty decent 65.99% age grading. Also mini touristing in Yorkshire, Chris Rouse was to be found at Sewerby parkrun where he ran a 28.54 for 120th place. Penultimately this week, David Howarth and Gavin Elliott decided to take on the hill at Shipley Country Park parkrun where David came out on top finishing in a very reasonable time of 25.38 in 48th position whilst Gav dragged himself around in 26.49 for 58th place.
As they say, last but not least, Dennis Holmes in preparation for his return to National Cross Country running at Berry Hill park later in the afternoon, made the short trip to Thonock Lane Farm parkrun near Gainsborough and completed the 5k run, all on grass, in the reasonable time of 26.11 taking 25th place out of 111 finishers.
Well run everyone. If I have missed anyone please comment below. Also, remember to put Matlock AC as one of your clubs in your parkrun profile which makes it easier for me to collect your results.
