parkrun News – Saturday 15 March 2025
Some excellent running this weekend with NINE MAC members, late late Edit, make that TEN MAC members, achieving age gradings of over 70% which the author believes is the threshold for real runners with at least a modicum of athletic ability.
Kicking us off at Alvaston, Beccy Curtis-Hall ran a 21.45 for a 71.26% and earned 5th lady and 51st overall, whilst Liz Burgess finishing in 70th position and a time of 22.31 went even better with a fantastic 77.35 age grading.
Up in the Lakes in Keswick Ann Armistead as reliable as ever clocked up an impressive 31.43 and a 76.46% grading. Back on form after his argument with a post, Luke Beresford hit the highs again with a first finisher 17.35 and 78.2% at Sheffield Millhouses, well run Luke. At our local Monsal Trail parkrun 3 members all broke the 70% barrier with Damon Harrison clocking 18.58 for 6th place and 73.02% whilst super vet club Chair Andy Mellor ran an impressive 19.35 for 10th place and an even better 76.51%. Completing the trio, David Davidson’s 26.54 and 86th place scored him a solid 73.11%.
Sole MAC at Moors Valley parkrun, Paul Clark continued his trend of excellent results with a fine 20.39 for 27th place and 71.43%.
Also showing a return to form and consistency, Sarah Witham was sole MAC at South Manchester parkrun where she ran an impressive 22.46, 105th place and a 71.89% age grading.
The final member of our athletic 70% plus club this week was Kate Ruffell at Vicar Water Country park with a time of 25.02 and age grading of 76.43% made more impressive by the fact that this is a course with quite a serious amount of hill in it! Well run Kate.
Apologies to all of you who have not got a mention this week and this particularly elitist report, (It is an athletic club after all). I know that its all about the taking part and achieving your personal goals but I also think that we can celebrate the achievements of our quicker runners once in a while too.
We won’t mention tourist awards or alphabet hunters this week as they are surely the sort of activities followed by has-been’s or never-been’s.
Welcome to new young members Chris Wood and Andy Wallis and welcome back to older member Scott Thomson. Chris grabbed 9th at Monsal Trail whilst Andy and Scott finished 40th and 101st at Black Rocks. Please add Matlock AC into your parkrun profile so that you can get picked up each week.
Great effort everyone.
