Parkrun Roundup

Parkrun news 19 October 2024
Only 16 MAC’s were out and about at 10 different parkrun venues this week. Alvaston proved popular with a trio of MAC’s visiting the local fast course which follows the route of a canal so never likely to be anything but flat. Luke Beresford returning from injury having come off second with an argument with a bollard still managed a 20.10 for 21st position with Elizabeth Burgess only a couple of minutes behind finishing in 21.58 for 4th lady and 33rd overall and a remarkable age grading of 79.29%! Lisa Walton nursing a cold bumbled around in a more sedate 35.09. Also staying local Andrew Watson made his regular appearance at Ashbourne Community where he ran a consistently quick 23.09 for 24th place. Much further afield Sarah Witham attended the new Battersea parkrun where she probably ran a lot quicker than her recorded time of 25.59, for 497th position, as reports suggest a few logistical issues caused long queues to develop at the finish funnel. Also touristing this weekend, Beccy and Rob were at Berkeley Green parkrun near Bristol where they enjoyed a gentle jaunt around in identical times of 25.59. Running only his 3rd ever parkrun and 2nd at Graves, Sheffield, Antony Lester also had a steady run finishing in 27.34 for 59th place whilst nearby Cherry Moger was completing Endcliffe for her 4th time making that her 88th parkrun to date. Not surprisingly the most popular MAC parkrun was the Monsal Trail where Andy Mellor preceded Jack Cummins in the boys race whilst Maegan Elliott came in just a couple of minutes ahead of Sarah Austin for the girls. Paul Clark takes the tourist award this week for his 22.12 at Moors Valley parkrun in Dorset whilst Gavin Elliott was also touristing again at Preston Park parkrun, Brighton. Finally, Dennis Holmes had an enforced change of plan when his planned train to London was subjected to “engineering works” and instead opted for the drive to Selby in North Yorkshire where he claimed 18th position and a time of 23.44 on a perfectly flat out and back course in the pouring rain.
