PEAK DISTRICT ULTRA CHALLENGE – Miriam Beastall reports
2024 Peak District Ultra Challenge is an amazing and very well organised event kicking off in Bakewell and running over the weekend with around 3000 people taking part.
The biggest challenge is the 100k continuous challenge with 1st M Simon Dicks at 10hrs 20mins and 1st F Becca Salmon at 11hrs 14mins.
I decided to do the half day challenge, which is 48km, because I had never done more than a half marathon race before, and life often gets in the way of any training plan. I was pretty nervous. Training, niggles…none of it quite went to plan. On the day…adrenaline, and a couple of pain killers, and a hugely positive mind set all seemed to come together!
I loved the route, a few refreshing raindrops, and some friendly faces at the pit stops. I finished in 5hrs 58mins. 3rd Female. 6th overall.
1st M was Luke Beastall at 4hrs 39mins. 1st F was Leisha Shiner 5hrs 38mins. The only thing I seem to have in common with all these winners – other than a desire for running longer than you know is good for you – is having some rather interesting surnames! 🤣
