Robin Hood Half Marathon

David Howarth reports:

I have a long association with the Robin Hood marathon/half marathon. Growing up in Nottingham the races began after I’d moved away but I came back to run, combining it with a visit to my parents.

I ran the 2nd Robin Hood marathon in 1982, and again in 1983, followed by the half in 1984. Then a long break before running the marathon again in 2000 and 2001. Then back again in 2011 to successfully achieve the o/50 qualifying time for Boston 2012.

After several years of being plagued by injuries and coming close to giving up running, I have had an injury free 12 months which made running a half marathon once again a possibility. So there I was back in Nottingham for this year’s Robin Hood half marathon (there is no longer a marathon), more than 40 years after my first Robin Hood event.

The crowds were out on a damp morning to cheer the 7,000 runners on. With a modest goal of getting under 2 hours I just achieved that (chip time, not gun time) although I would have liked to have gone a little faster (next time…..maybe).
