School’s Out

School’s Out!

In terms of race entries, you don’t usually get much for fifteen quid. Apart from the local fell races, most 10k races are in the region of twenty pounds and the prices tend to go up the further you run. So, when you are chasing marathon numbers it becomes an expensive business and if you get the chance to run an event at that price, you cannot turn it down, even if it is just 5 days since your last marathon.

See York Run York organised the School’s Out 6 hour timed event on Friday 16 August at the city’s racecourse. All their events are reasonably priced (under £30), but this one was even cheaper because they were giving out medals from previous events which were surplus to requirements. The course starts near to the grandstands at the Racecourse and runs alongside it for a couple of furlongs before crossing over the course and looping around York College. Each lap is about 5.4k long, with just one slight climb.

To complete a marathon, runners had to complete 7 laps followed by an out and back section to the ‘Cone of Doom’, which sounds splendid, but it’s just a cone. For Matlock Athletic Club, Dan Ashcroft completed the course in 4 hours 3 minutes. The winner was Anna Finn (100 Marathon Club) who completed a full 9 laps.
