Monday Evening Training
These are our training nights.
We like to mix things up a bit, so the sessions might include different sorts of sprints and loops around Hall Leys Park, running up hills (it’s not as bad as it sounds) and other high intensity techniques that will build your speed and stamina.
6pm at the arc leisure centre unless otherwise stated in schedule
Wednesday Evening Training
These are our steadier training nights.
These sessions are aimed particularly at newer and steadier runners (but all are welcome). Our run out from and back to the Arc is at an easier pace – the training session allows everyone to work at their own pace, with support and direction from the group leader.
6:30pm at the arc leisure centre unless otherwise stated in schedule
Thursday Evening Training
These are our longer runs. During winter, they tend to be along roads with headtorches – during summer we make the most of the beautiful scenery around us, with off-road runs around the local moors and villages, off-road wherever possible.
These runs are typically 7-9 miles long and a schedule is listed on our website. We split into four groups; three run the same route but at different paces so you’re not pressured to keep up with our faster runners. The fourth group tends to do a shorter route – usually 5-6 miles, so no one is left out if 7-9 miles seems a bit too long.
On Thursday nights we occasionally mix it up – during summer we have an away run (sometimes in conjunction with another local club) approx. once a month, with a social drink, sandwiches and chips in a pub afterwards. During winter, we have a 10k timed run to Matlock Bath, so you can race against others and yourself, to see if you can improve during the winter months.
A series of six 10k handicap races decided on age graded performances run over the Arc/Matlock Bath course as part of the Autumn/Winter training schedule from October to March.
New for this year is separate mens and ladies categories, and it's your best 5 results to count.
The Derby Runner league is a competition between 12 clubs – all members of Matlock Athletic Club are eligible (and encouraged) to take part. There is no cost to run, and a great atmosphere with hundreds of club runners of all abilities taking part.
The league comprises a summer and winter series: Winter races take place on a Sunday morning each month starting at 11:00 on a cross country course. Depending on the weather, these can often be wet and muddy, which all adds to the fun. The summer league races take place on a Tuesday evening. The events are hosted by different clubs within the league, so runners have the opportunity to race around different locations, but none are too far away.
We have a club library comprising of books, DVDs, magazine articles etc relating to all aspects of running and sports generally.
Anyone wanting to borrow an item from the library simply needs to email the Club Librarian through our contact form. All we ask is that you return the item in the condition it was in before you borrowed it.
You cannot obtain MAC running vests from Kick Off Sport. If you require a running vest, please order one from Dan Ashcroft, Treasurer or send your details via this form on the website and your request will be passed on. Running vests cost £24.
