Snickerthon 2025
On Sunday 22 June, the Snickerthon took place at Chasewater Country Park which included a choice of 5k, 10k, half marathon and marathon distances. It was a lapped event with each circuit being just over 3.3 miles. Thankfully the heatwave peaked on Saturday and although it was warm when the race started, the welcome relief from a few rain showers soon cooled things down.
Each lap started and finished at the visitor centre, heading in an anti-clockwise direction (is that even important!) along the dam wall of the reservoir. Over the 3 and a bit miles runners were treated to the occasional rail crossing where the Chasewater Railway Parkhopper service runs, utilising a Class 142 Pacer DMU. Just after the first crossing, the route heads into Norton Bog until it recrosses the railway and returns to the reservoir.
Also on course were a few local deer and a lady and her ferret. The other trail users all spoke with either a Brummie or Black Country accent, apparently there is a difference, but to the untrained ear it was hard to tell.
Representing Matlock and having a ‘bostin’ day out were Lisa Walton who completed the half marathon and Dan Ashcroft who did the full.
