Snowdon Mountain Race 2024
The 47th International Snowdon Race took place on Saturday 20th July with 4 Matlock AC Athletes testing themselves up & down the mighty Yr Wydfa the highest mountain in Wales.
The 10 mile race can be traced back to 1976, with International Runners and Amateurs alike coming together at the small town of Llanberis at the foot of Snowdon to test their speed, climbing and descending skills and mental strength to the limits.
In typical Llanberis weather, grey skies and the rain soaker switch was flicked on in time for the 2pm start.
A minutes applause for the great Joss Naylor was paid tribute to the king of the fells before the runners set off and away for the tough challenge ahead of them.
Over 500 runners battled up and down the mountain with all 4 Macs doing superbly well, all going under the 2 hour mark up and down a 3000ft mountain is a great achievement.
Mixing it at the front end of the pack was George Foster, with recent wins at the Skiddaw Mountain Race and Snowdon Uphill Race, recorded another great run finishing 15th overall in 1.13.
Myself (Luke Beresford) had a good run finishing in 1.21 & 2nd V40, after trying to man mark the legend and fell running master that is Ian Holmes, but got out classed by the first 3 females.
Next back was Cherry Moger making her Snowdon debut and put in a fantastic time of 1.56 for her first Snowdon Race an excellent result. Bravo!
Ever present Geoff Cooper Trooper was in a race off with his son in law and was victorious in the battle, to just dip under the 2 hour mark a superb result.
The Mac Men Trio picked up a 3rd place overall in the accumulated team results, with the prize of a speed boat and luxury holiday to the caribbean, Geoff unfortunately missed the prize giving presentation.
Post race meal at the Victoria Hotel was once again spot on with plenty of Veg/Chicken Curry & Chilli with runners all sharing there adventure on the mountain.
More Macs welcome next year!! 🙂
