Stuart Learmouth Memorial Undulator

Sunday morning saw the Stuart Learmouth Memorial Undulator race hosted by Wirksworth Running Club. The weather was wetter than a mermaid’s shower cap, but that didn’t stop MAC’s dirty dozen from setting aside their life choices and hitting the start line.

The route starts with a climb, and then climbs a little more. Runners are then treated to a bit of a climb, before climbing… well you get the picture. But the ascent is worth the pain – having risen all the way to Harboro’ Rocks, the views were spectacular, with runners not only able to see the end of their nose, but sometimes the misty ground in front of them,

Captain Thorpe led the MACs home in 7th place.  Navigationally-challenged Chair Andy Mellor was having such fun that he decided to ignore the direct route to the finish line, with a celebratory tour of Wirksworth before launching a surprise attack on the timekeepers from behind – always best to keep them on their toes, but still enough for 9th place.

Nick Gant was 12th overall with Scott Thompson and Andy Hodkin in 21st and 22nd respectively. Gemma Cox was the first MAC lady just missing out on the podium as 4th overall lady. Also in action were Dan Maskrey, Dale Peakall, Mick Moorhouse, Gavin Elliott, Les Thurston and Sally Owen.

The MAC crockery cupboards were also bolstered with Andy Mellor nabbing V50 (thanks to the faster V50 taking 2nd overall). Andy Hodkin took the V60 honours, with Mick Moorhouse doing what he does best in the V70s.

A great event despite the weather, and thanks to all those at Wirksworth Running Club who also braved the miserable weather to encourage everyone around the course.
