The Grizzly

The Grizzly
Around 2,000 runners took on this year’s Grizzly (20 miles) and Cub (9 miles) races. Setting off from Seaton, the course started with a leg-sapping stretch across the pebble beach. From there, the route followed some beautiful coastal trails, with plenty of ups and downs adding up to over 1,000m of ascent (and of course, adding in a few of the Grizzly’s famous bogs).

The race had a brilliant local feel despite its size, including a surprise party atmosphere at a remote pub in the valley with live music and cheering ringing in your ears as you passed. The route concluded with the final “Stairway to Heaven” before the return through Beer. Kindly finished off with a hose down from the fire brigade to get the mud off!

In the women’s race, Alice Kelly took the win in 2h51 while Ceri Rees won the men’s and overall in 2h22. I trotted home in 3h37 (overall 307/1347 and 36/464 female).

Highly recommend – huge thanks to Les for the transfer and recommendation!
