The Ponton Plod

On Sunday 10 September 2023, while some geezer was signing off his career in some big run which takes place up north, the Notfast Ponton Plod took place. It had been billed as the hottest day of September, if not the year, and conditions were certainly a bit muggy.
This is a no-nonsense event with three distances to choose from, Marathon, 17 mile and 10k. Starting in the quaint village of Great Ponton, the routes lead over the A1 to the Vale of Belvoir, taking in Harlaxton, Denton and a few other small villages and hamlets. The course is run on a combination of paths and fields, with a few road sections chucked in as well. For your entry fee you receive soup and sandwiches, followed by crumble and custard once you’ve finished.
There were three representatives from Matlock Athletic Club, with Pete Bush taking on the 17-mile race and Jon Tyson and Dan Ashcroft tackling the Marathon. Results have not yet been published, but in the Marathon Jon Tyson took first male and second place overall with Dan closely behind in third.
Even more impressive however, is that whilst waiting for Jon and Dan to finish, it has been reported that Pete ate his bodyweight in rhubarb & plum crumble. Full results and photos to follow.
