Luke Beresford reports:
Tuesday evening was the local Riber Hill Fell Race from Lea Green with 14 Maccy Macs taking on the challenging short 4.2 mile fell race/ 1000ft organised by Richard Bradbury.
Conditions were good, weather was dry, but underfoot was slippy due to rain earlier in the day. A fast start down to the brook before the series of 4 punchy climbs on route, with perhaps the hardest coming first, and the short sharp sting in the tail last back to the finish.
Straight out the starting blocks like a gazelle was the turbulent Toby Gill who galloped away to retain his winning title and take another 30 seconds off his winning time from 2022. Rumour has it that Toby had been out on course earlier in the day setting a few booby traps including fishing wire to take down any potential leaders.
Next back was myself in 2nd position, picking up the old boys V40 medal, with the shirtless Simon Fisher not far behind cruising in 20th place. Dave Robertson had a excellent run in 25th, with Matt Govan chasing hard in 30th.
Lottie was first mac Lady back for 3rd Female, while Mick Moorhouse continued his excellent season smashing the V70s in 34th overall. Tom Withers & Andy Hodkin followed next in 40th& 41st with Honeymoon couple Greg & Meg 43rd & 44th.
The Gill family had another potential fast runner to challenge Toby with sister Jess inside the top half of the field in 48th , John Tyson covered the hills well in 50th with Dale Peakall not far behind in 55th. The ever present Gav Elliot rounded in the troops in 65th after his 2nd race in 2 days. 98 runners took part with just 1 retirement. With the local Jug & Glass pub closed post race drinks were had at the Cliff Inn Crich were a pint of farmers blonde went down a dream and the summer solstice was just a few hours away. Big thanks to Rich Bradbury and all marshals and everyone else involved – fantastic evening.
