Windgather Fell Race 2022

Mark Elwis reports:

Two of the three stooges from last weeks York yomp made it out yesterday to take part in the annual Windgather HM hilly fell race in Buxton, organised impeccably by the Buxton Rotarian’s and Macclesfield Harriers.

They were joined by a third MAC Emma Fitzgerald who wisely kept her distance and identity known from the two stooges.

This years event put Matt N and Mark E in the wet zone from the off with a wet and miserable morning greeting the large attendance. (The lead stooge Bob F unfortunately had a date to Summat something else🤷‍♂️).

No high fiving, fist pumping or elbow bumping with any prat’s here, just a good old fashioned 3-2-1 and away we go.

Matt N having found his balls, whizzed off into the wetness leaving his surrogate Dad flailing in the ever growing puddles. Mark E flailed badly having left his grippy shoes in the locker, suffering two pathetic nil point falls in the first 4 miles leaving him to push hard on the uphill climbs but mince round the ensuing wet downhill sections. Matt took control and had a clear passage round suffering no Ill effects from his previous weeks testicular torment and finished strongly, with no suggestion of having to (if in doubt) pull out!

The weather became kind during the race making it a most enjoyable but tough encounter for all.

Matt N managed 24th place in a very respectable time of 2 hours 1 minute and 7 seconds and Mark E managed to slide round in 2 hours 8 minutes and 50 seconds managing 40th place and 3rd V55.

Emma Fitzgerald returned in a well earned time of 2:54:59 and a 140th position.

The overall winner was Jack Scott (Who🤔) – Team Innov8 in a very respectable time of 1:36:41 and the 1st lady was Faye Sharpley – Macclesfield Harriers in a very strong time of 2:08:32 and 37th overall place.

There were a total of 175 entrants.

A great day out on a great course which is always well organised and enjoyed by all ….whatever the weather.
